NDSU Women’s Club celebrates 100 years

(Fargo, ND) -- The centennial of the founding of the NDSU Women’s Club in 1920 will be celebrated with a brunch and program, scheduled for Saturday, September 11th, at 11 a.m. at the NDSU Memorial Union Ballroom.

“The NDSU Women’s Club began after the campaign for women’s suffrage ended with the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution,” said Ann Braaten, associate professor in apparel, retail and merchandising and design at NDSU. “The centennial honors the club’s role in welcoming women to our community through educational and social gatherings, and in providing needed support for women seeking a college degree.”

During the program, Braaten will present an illustrated history of the club and the changing roles of women through fashion from NDSU’s Emily Reynolds Historic Costume Collection.

The program also includes a poem reading by Bibi Khan that is a homage to the NDSU Women’s Club and its members, and remarks from NDSU President Bresciani and NDSU Women’s Club President Mary Bjerke. Memorabilia from the club’s 100 years will be displayed.

The celebration is open to the public and costs $12. Reservations are required by sending an email to gritatiwinst [dot] org with your name and the name of your guest(s) or by calling (701) 261-0330.
