Moorhead Police Respond to a Multiple Vehicle Crash

(Moorhead, MN) -- Multiple people are seriously hurt after a four-car crash in Moorhead Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say at around 3:31 p.m., Sanford Ambulance, Moorhead Fire, and Moorhead Officers were dispatched to the intersection of 8th Street South and Belsly Boulevard for a multiple vehicle accident resulting in the complete blockage of 8th Street South. The caller advised that one person was laying in the roadway and a second person was not conscious.

After an initial investigation, officers were able to determine that a small passenger car travelling north bound on 8th Street veered into the southbound traffic and collided head on with a vehicle stopped at the intersection. The collision pushed the stopped vehicle back into a vehicle stopped behind it and the responsible vehicle continued north, where it struck a second vehicle.  In total, four vehicles were involved.

The driver and passenger of the responsible vehicle were transported by ambulance to the Sanford Hospital.  The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.  Other involved parties were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The accident is still under investigation; however, initial information indicates a medical condition may have been a contributing cause. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have played a role in the accident. Final charges have not yet been determined.
