Dilworth Fire Department Pushing for New Station

(Dilworth, MN) -- If they have it their way, Dilworth Fire could have a new home.

The Department is pushing State and Local leaders for funding for either a completely new building, or to partially tear down the current building and renovate.

"The current place is 40 years old," said Fire Chief Mark Empting on WDAY Radio's Bonnie and Friends Monday. "It has served it's purpose to this point, but we've outgrown it."

Empting says they need a more expansive space for training and just overall room to breathe, as the volunteer group has grown exponentially over the past number of years.

To this point, the Department has received $975,000 in Federal funding, but is seeking around $3.2 million from State officials and $2.3 million in aid from Local leaders.

Empting, who is also the Clay County Sheriff, added that they would also need to build an apparatus off the current station on 1st Avenue Northwest to stay operational with either the complete tear down or partial remodel of the proposal.
