FCPH announces availability of COVID booster shots

(Fargo, ND) -- Beginning in November, Fargo Cass Public Health will administer booster doses of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine during vaccine-specific clinics. These booster clinics are intended for individuals recently announced by the Food and Drug Administration and CDC as eligible to receive a booster dose.

The following booster clinics are planned for early November:

  • Moderna booster doses will be available by appointment on both Friday, November 5th and Friday, November 12 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) and Pfizer booster doses will be available by appointment on Saturday, November 6th from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Booster dose clinics will be held at the main FCPH location of 1240 25th Street South, Fargo. To streamline traffic flow, appointments are required.

Based on guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, eligible individuals in the following groups are now recommended to receive a single COVID-19 vaccine booster dose six months following the completion of their Pfizer or Moderna primary series.

  • 65 years and older
  • Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings
  • Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
  • Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings

A single COVID-19 vaccine booster dose is recommended for those who are age 18 and older and were vaccinated two or more months ago with the initial Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) dose.

Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots. According to CDC, a booster shot will help strengthen protection against severe disease in those populations who are at high-risk for exposure to COVID-19 or the complications from severe disease.
