(West Fargo, ND) -- In the wake of a major leadership position opening up for the West Fargo Police Department, it's chief says their moving closer to filling that role.

WFPD Chief Denis Otterness telling WDAY Radio's Bonnie and Friends that a decision on the department's next Assistant Police Chief should be coming down hopefully within the next two weeks.

"I was really impressed with the fact that we had five internal candidates for the position," said Chief Otterness. "We've put the applicants through different activities and interviews, and really like what we've seen so far."

The opening came after the resignation in October of former Assistant Chief Jerry Boyer, who was placed on leave beforehand for allegations of misconduct. Boyer had sent emails to the entire police department undermining Chief Otterness and showing frustration with treatment of officers in the wake of the murder of George Floyd.
