AAA is offering it's Tow to Go program in North Dakota for the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.  The free service, which AAA wants people to treat as a backup plan, offers to tow a vehicle belonging to an impaired driver, and transport the driver to a safe location within a 10 mile radius.

"AAA takes the persistent problem of impaired driving seriously," said Gene LaDoucer, North Dakota Director for Public Affairs for AAA- The Auto Club Group.  "Now as North Dakotans enjoy the holiday weekend, none of them will have an excuse for driving impaired.  We still strongly encourage people to identify a safe ride home prior to consuming alcohol and treat Tow to Go as their last resort".

Since 1998, the Tow to Go program has towed vehicles belonging to more than 25,000 impaired drivers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 10,142 traffic fatalities in 2019 involving drivers impaired by alcohol.  Of those deaths, 417 happened during the Thanksgiving holiday period.

The number to call to request the Tow to Go service is (855) 2-TOW-2-GO.

The service is free to AAA members and non-members.

The service is available from 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 24th to 6 a.m. Monday, November 29th.
