Fargo doctor urges calm as new COVID variant emerges

(Fargo, ND) -- A Fargo doctor is urging calm as a new COVID variant is emerging in other countries.  

The Omicron variant was recently discovered rapidly spreading in South Africa. Sanford Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Avish Nagpal says it is likely that the virus has crossed into the U.S., but hasn't been detected yet.  

Nagpal says those in other countries who have contracted the variant have had mild cases. He recommends vaccination, boosters, and current therapies as scientists gather more information about the new variant.
