(Grand Forks, ND) -- The Mayor of Grand Forks is apologizing for a Facebook post he made opposing a proposed University of North Dakota policy regarding transgender students.

The proposed policy would require the uses of a transgender person's preferred pronouns and the use of facilities that align with a person's gender identity. Brandon Bochenski posted a letter from a group representing North Dakota's Roman Catholic bishops and made comments opposing the policy.

Mayor Bochenski walked back the "unduly harsh" nature of his comments at Tuesday's commission meeting, where members of the LGBTQ community called for change.
