(Fargo, ND) -- East Central North Dakota Judge Tom Olson has informed Governor Burgum he plans to retire in April.

"I served as one of the judges of the drug courts in Cass County and that was always the highlight of my week, seeing people working on their recovery and returning to independence," said Olson while talking about his career.

Tom Olson said health concerns are a contributing factor in his retirement decision.  He suffered two strokes in 2021 after he was earlier hospitalized for more than a month while being treated for Covid-19.  Judge Olson has served Cass, Steele and Traill counties since 2014.  Olson oversaw the trial of William Hoehn, who was accused of conspiring to kidnap and kill Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind in 2017.
