(Fargo, ND) -- North Dakota State University researchers say the state's extended drought is reducing the risk of problems with wheat midge infestations this year.
The orange wheat blossom midge is considered one of the crop's most destructive pests. An outbreak in the mid 1990s led the university to begin annual fall surveys of wheat midge larvae in 1995.
Drought conditions in the western half of North Dakota have improved this week.
