Jennifer Benson asserts Fargo School Board is silencing dissenting voices

(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo School Board has adopted a stricter policy regarding noncompliance for board members.

"So that is where we are at.  They're just taking more steps to really silence the voice that is trying to hold them accountable to what our duties really are," said board member Jennifer Benson.

Benson was one of two board members who voted against the motion adopted Tuesday night.  The policy has been discussed for four months and gives the board approval to remove a board member from any leadership or committee positions to which the offending member has been elected or appointed. The effort toward stricter compliance comes after Benson spoke to North Dakota lawmakers in November 2021, expressing views that were not supported by the board.

School Board President Rebecca Knutson asserts the new policy didn't apply to anyone specifically.
