Search continues for suspect in highway patrol chase off I-94 near Mapleton

(Mapleton, ND) -- The search continues for a suspect who led the North Dakota State Highway Patrol on a high speed chase Friday morning.

The State Patrol says at approximately 9:18 a.m. a Trooper attempted to stop a Pontiac Grand Prix for failing to maintain its lane. The driver of the vehicle fled from the Trooper traveling eastbound on I-94 traveling at speeds over 100 mph. During the pursuit the fleeing Pontiac exited at MM 338 and collided into a Honda Odyssey that was traveling in front of the Pontiac. This caused a minor property crash with no injuries.

The suspect then re-entered I-94 traveling eastbound. Authorities attempted to utilize spike strips near the Sheyenne exit to stop the pursuit, but the utilization of the spike strips was not effective.The fleeing Pontiac then exited traveling southbound on the Veterans Blvd exit.

The NDHP discontinued the pursuit when the Pontiac entered the city of Fargo as continuing the pursuit would have created a hazard to the public.The Pontiac was found abandoned near a hotel in Fargo.
