(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo Liquor Control Board held a meeting regarding both the use and possible requirement of ID scanners in bars and restaurants.

Fargo City Commissioner Dave Peipkorn summarized the discussion surrounding the ID scanners on WDAY Midday. Peipkorn personally is not in favor of mandating the technology and says the city is on the same page, "As far as the city, I would not be in favor of requiring it. At this point, we are just encouraging people to do it - and I'm comfortable with that."

Peipkorn does unequivocally support the use of ID scanners though, "If I had a business I would for sure have one. It takes a lot of the guess work [out], and you just automatically check it when people come in and then you don't have to worry about these issues. To me, a $500 fine is substantial."

Peipkorn says the scanners are already prevalent within the larger bars in Fargo. The Commissioner says he is uncomfortable forcing the expence on smaller businesses, which is why he does not want to regulate their use within the city.
