(West Fargo, ND) -- His candidacy for the North Dakota House of Representatives is fairly new, but long overdue.

That the message from West Fargo School Board President Jim Jonas, who just this past week made the announcement after over three decades in education that he was headed to a whole different political landscape.

"Public office has always been on my mind," said Jonas on an appearance on WDAY Midday. "After getting a lot of people's support for it, we decided it was time."

Jonas is hoping to bring his educational approach to the State House, with hopes to inact change mainly in that arena across North Dakota.

As for the school board, Jonas says he doesn't plan on going anywhere. "Yes, I would stay on the school board," said Jonas. "But, I wouldn't be President anymore. The day-to-day responsibilities of the President is a bit too much if we win this seat."

Jonas faces stiff competition in the primary for District 13, including incumbents Austen Schauer and house speaker Kim Koppleman.
