(Moorhead, MN) -- The Minnesota State Senate has it's newest candidate for District Four, and he is home-grown from Moorhead.

Retired Colonel Dan Bohmer speaking out about his choice to run for the seat, despite some turmoil in the Republican Party in Clay County.

"Just a bunch of talks with my family who have all supported me through this decision," said Bohmer, who appeared on WDAY Midday. "At the end of the day, someone has to stand up and be the voice for what were trying to accomplish, and that person is me."

Bohmer, who served nearly 38 years in the Minnesota Army National Guard, is prioritizing inflation, crime rates and business in the state.

As far as the back in forth inside the party, Bohmer says he is perfectly fine with staying out of the conflict. "There are always multiple sides to every story," said Bohmer. "I don't want to be involved with those issues thought. I just want to focus on running and hope these issues get resolved in the meantime."
