(Fargo, ND) -- The race for the two open Fargo City Commission spots is loaded with candidates, but one says he stands out more than the others.

Speaking with WDAY Midday Friday, current Fargo City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn, who officially announced his re-election bid earlier in the week, is embracing the competition as the race heats up.

"I can honestly say there is nobody like me running for commission," said Piepkorn. "But I welcome the competition and it should be this way."

Piepkorn faces ten other candidates running for his and current commissioner Tony Gehrig's seat, with the possibility of more filings coming in the remaining ten days before the April 11th deadline.

As for what he says will be his main focus during this stretch to serve another term at City Hall, Piepkorn noted the diversion and local economy have been stalwarts in his run as commissioner and deputy mayor, but he does see another item on the agenda that could be crucial moving forward.

"Because of the Diversion, were going to be capped on where we can develop until it finishes up. I think while we have the chance, we need to figure out how to develop what we have first before getting to that point," said Piepkorn.
