(West Fargo, ND) -- We now known just how often West Fargo Firefighters were called to action in 2021.

During Monday evenings City Commission meeting, Fire Chief Dan Fuller presented the West Fargo Fire Department 2021 Annual Report, which covers the department’s accomplishments, vital statistics and state of the department, displays the department’s continued success in meeting the needs of the growing community.

Chief Fuller say the department responded to 2,539 calls for service in 2021. Of those, the department responded to 266 instances of two or more calls at once. This represents the increased demand for an all-hazards fire department, including emergency medical services. The City Commission approved the plans for a new fire headquarters to meet the increasing needs of the city in 2020.

“Our department has seen a 54% increase in fire loss over this past year,” said Fuller. “The new fire headquarters will allow us to expand our capacity and reduce response times to meet our resident’s needs.”

The West Fargo Fire Department continued to adapt and grow, training over 10,000 hours on topics ranging from community risk reduction to technical rescues. The community risk reduction program continued to evolve and reached 6,016 citizens at public events. A new Citizens Fire Academy also launched, allowing participants to gain a better understanding of the department’s operations, capabilities and responsibilities.

"The department maintains a highly skilled, determined, and capable workforce," said Fuller in a statement released to WDAY Radio. "Through rigorous entry testing and high-level performance measurement, the fire company remains ready with an all hazards mindset. From routine fire and medical calls, to natural disasters, pandemics, and terrorist incidents, the fire department is the front line of response for the community."
