(Fargo, ND) -- The race to fill Cass County State's Attorney Burch Burdick's seat this year is heating up, with two in-house candidates vying for the job.

Ryan Younggren stopped by WDAY Midday to talk about his candidacy for the position, and what he brings to the table for the role.

"I've been working here as a criminal prosecutor for the past 14 and a half years," said Younggren. "I'm very proud to be a prosecutor here in Fargo. Violent criminals, the people who have long records, that's what I do. I put them in jail."

Younggren has been the lead attorney on several cases for Burdick's office in his tenure, and added that his love for the area, and justice, would pay major dividends if elected.

Both Younggren and his colleague, Assistant State's Attorney Kim Hegvik, who both have served the office for roughly 15 years, are on the full court press to take over for Burdick. He is retiring from his position as Cass County State Attorney at the end of the year.
