(Fargo, ND) -- One of the candidates for the soon to be open Cass County Commission District Two seat is preaching the importance of the commission itself as election season begins to heat up.

Former North Dakota State House Representative Ben Hanson says while the drama and number of candidates may draw more people in to the Fargo mayoral and City Commission races, Cass County Commissioners hold a lot of decision making ability that affects a lot of people.

"When you think about it, West Fargo is growing at an alarming rate. Fargo is growing extremely fast as well," said Hanson in an exclusive interview with WDAY Midday. "It's like servicing an area like the Twin Cities. There is over 180,000 people here."

Hanson did say that focusing on the FM Diversion is near and dear to him, being that he lived through the floods in the past few decades in the area, but that's not his only focus if elected.

"The commission works with Fargo Public Schools to identify kids that want to get involved in the the skills professions," said Hanson. "That is something I'm very interested in continuing to help continue facilitating relief to those trade businesses around the county."

The Cass County Commission race will be on both the June Primary and November General election. All eligible Cass County voters can vote for the District Two seat.
