The West Fargo Police Department share 2021's statistics for crime, investigations,

(West Fargo, ND) -- The West Fargo Police Department has released its 2021 annual report.

The report details department accomplishments, along with vital crime statistics and call numbers. The department says overall crime fell 8% compared to 2020, and property crimes fell by 10%. There was a 4% increase to crimes against persons within the city, but the 2021 number is still lower compared to 2015 - 2019.

"Our department remains significantly below the reported six-year crime average,” said West Fargo Police Chief Otterness. “The continued decrease in overall crime rates would not be possible without the partnership between the community and members of the police department.” 

The Police Department is also highlighting several other pieces of information...

- 68 officers and 13 civilian staff were hired throughout 2021
- Red River Valley SWAT was deployed 14 times. The Bomb Squad was called a total of 21 times. 
- There were 28,660 call for service. That number is below the total number called in each of the previous three years. 
- The total number of DUI's, DUI refusals, and Driving Under Suspension numbers are at their lowest in six years. 
- A total of 920 cases were reviewed and 584 investigations were assigned officers. 62% of tips sent in from the public lead to a case closure. 
- The department seized 202.7 grams of meth, 7.22 grams of heroin, 2,721.07 grams of marijuana, 55.5 pills of fentanyl, 91.51 grams of mushrooms, and $21,675.56 for evidence collection and processing.
