(Fargo, ND) -- The suspect is dead in a shooting that critically injured a woman and baby in South Fargo Wednesday afternoon.

Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski says a woman and her 8-month-old baby were shot in the Plaza Azteca Mexican Restaurant around 1:47 p.m. Zibolski says the two victims were at a table with the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Malik Lamar Gillwho, pulled a handgun and shot at the 21-year-old woman and child. Authorities say the woman ran from the restaurant, with Gill firing his weapon behind her while she carried the baby outside.

Gill then fled the scene and was caught near Silver Lake, south of Hawley in Clay county. He was chased by deputies, rolled his vehicle, and came to a standstill. Authorities investigated the scene, and found the 24-year-old dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The victims were taken to a nearby hospital and are in critical but stable condition. More information will be released when it becomes available.
