Fargo School Board candidate Greg Clark honing in on teachers, mental health in schools

(Fargo, ND) -- The race for Fargo School Board is heating up, and one candidate is continuing his push to be a beacon of hope for teachers in the district.

Greg Clark, who is a data analyst and has pronounced himself 'relentlessly diplomatic' is focusing in on how to be a reliable source for improvement for teachers in the district.

"55% of educators say they’re considering retiring or just plain leaving the teaching profession," said Clark. "Fargo is no exception, having already lost hundreds of educators this school year. We must act now to reverse this trend."

Clark, whose wife is an educator in the West Fargo School District, says supporting students and mental health are also key factors in his bid for one of the five school board seats up for grabs this June.

"When it comes to the achievement gap, I think the number one thing we can do is related to staffing," said Clark. "Research also shows that teacher turnover greatly impacts student learning. Our staffing shortages are coinciding with an explosion in students’ academic, social, and emotional needs. Teacher recruitment and retention is more urgent than ever. The success of our students depends on it."

The Data Analyst also says he's tired of the decorum displayed within school board meetings involving the current members.

"Are you tired of saying 'Uffda' every time the School Board is mentioned in the news? Me too," says Clark, who is pushing to bring civility and 'diplomacy' to the board.

He adds that giving the community more of a voice, however, is crucial so that all stakeholders can be heard, and proper decisions can be made for the future of Fargo Public Schools.
