(Dilworth, MN) -- The Dilworth Police Department is getting new equipment.

The department has purchased portable fingerprint scanners that will help with identifying subjects during investigations. The scanner has secure access to BCI and FBI criminal databases.

"Suspects attempting to evade arrest often give the names of friends and family as they know other verified information, causing undue hardship, stress and even wrongful arrest on the other person," said the Department in a social media post announcing the new equipment being in use. "The DataWorks portable scanner which has a secure link to BCA and FBI databases will assist in quickly and correctly identifying subjects that are wasting valuable time and resources, and help stop false identification."

Dilworth Police have the first DataWorks scanner in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
