Storms roll through Red River Valley, bring heavy wind and damage

(Fargo, ND) -- Strong winds downed trees and power lines were prevalent over much of our listening area Monday night as storms rolled through the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Locally, winds of 60-70 mph were common. Sabin recorded peak winds of 72 mph, while 68 mph winds blew through Moorhead, and Fargo saw peak winds of 64 mph, while Glyndon clocked winds of 59 mph. Some areas saw winds over 80mph with hail 2-3 inches in diameter.

Tornado Warnings were also out for several counties to the northeast of us, including Mahnomen, Beltrami, Norman, Clearwater and Hubbard Counties.

Pictures on social media showed trampolines, lawn furniture and grills being picked up and blown away. A doorbell camera captured plywood and two by fours being picked up and blown off a house under construction in Horace. Hail and street flooding was also reported in many areas.

The weather also caused many to lose power throughout the area, both in the FM Metro and surrounding rural areas.
