(Fargo, ND) -- WDAY Radio is celebrating 100 years of broadcasting in 2022, and a 100th Birthday Party is being planned for Monday, July 25th in Downtown Fargo.

A day of special events is being planned, highlighted by a free lunch event on Broadway Square, the Downtown Plaza, where hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be served.

WDAY Radio (AM 970 and FM 93.1) will be broadcasting throughout the day in the Black Building on Broadway, one of the early homes of the iconic radio station, with the broadcast moving outside to the plaza during the lunch event. The station is operated by a partnership of Forum Communications, who has owned it for a majority of its 100 years, and Fargo-based Flag Family Media, which manages its day-to-day operations.

“The people of WDAY Radio have always made it unique,” says Bill Marcil, Sr., the longtime leader and principal owner of Forum Communications. “That tradition goes back many years, and the station has always had great people. Radio was visual and audible back in the early days when they had barn dances and bands that played all over, but WDAY has always been known for the quality of people that they had on the air. It’s been a winner from day one.”

The 100th Birthday Party is planned for 11-1 pm on Broadway Square. The public is invited to enjoy a free lunch and the WDAY Midday Show that will air live from the plaza. Various dignitaries and past broadcasters have been invited to attend.

“We are honored to play a small part in this wonderful story,” says Steve Hallstrom, President and Managing Partner of Flag Family Media. “We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to carry on this great tradition that the Black Family and the Marcil Family have created and we have had a blast planning this 100th year celebration.”

In case of inclement weather, alternative arrangements will be announced on WDAY Radio.
