Cass County Sheriff discusses Red River Valley Fair security and regional alcohol compliance checks

(Cass County, ND) -- Cass County's Sheriff is speaking about multiple local topics, focusing on Sheriff and Deputy presence at the Red River Valley Fair and also discussing the recent report from Fargo Cass Public Health.

Cass County Sheriff Jessie Jahner joined WDAY's The Coffee Club with Paul and Jennae. Jahner first spoke about the lack of criminal activity at the fair itself. He said most of the calls the department experienced were heat related, due to the high temperatures over the weekend.

"We did not have a lot of issues out there, "said Sheriff Jahner, "We had a large number of people out at those concerts... but for the most part it was real successful."

Jahner also spoke about the Fargo Cass Public Health report, which shows 36% of Cass County businesses surveyed passed their alcohol compliance checks. Jahner says the intention of the checks is two-fold; to ensure the business is following the law, and to give the ability for the business to bounce back from the infraction.

"I visited with them all personally, "said Jahner, "Our goal is to work with them not against them... just in visiting with them, they are experiencing some difficulties. Obviously with Covid. We weren't doing our regular server training that we do with those businesses, so it's been a few years since we've done that with them. They also expressed concerns that they're just having troubles like a lot of our businesses are."
