(Fargo, ND) --  Six hundred volunteers are gathering at Scheels Arena in Fargo with a goal of filling more than six thousand backpacks with school supplies, all to be given away.

"It's a need in our community. There are thousands of kids that don't have access to the resources they need to show up on day one of school," said Tiffany McShane, the United Way's Director of Community Engagement.

McShane says the effort is the 26th annual United Way of Cass-Clay School Supply Drive. She says the funding to buy the backpacks and supplies for children in need comes from community donations, with Essentia Health described as a "hero" supporter for the campaign.

Families in need can pick up backpacks and school supplies at Scheels Arena on the following days:

Tuesday, August 9th, from 4:30-6 p.m

Wednesday, Aug. 10th, from 4:30-6 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 11th from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
