(Valley City, ND) -- The decision by the Fargo Public School Board to end the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance at its meetings is not affecting the Valley City Public School Board.

School Superintendent Josh Johnson says the board will continue reciting the Pledge this upcoming school year and that often involves students leading it. Barnes County also confirms it has no plans to stop the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Fargo stopped the Pledge at Board meetings this past Tuesday because member Seth Holden said the mention of the word "God" excludes those who may not believe in God, and that it violated the district's inclusion policy.

The board then voted 7-2 to remove the pledge from its agenda moving forward, just months after voting to put it in.
