Car fire plumes smoke over South Fargo

(Fargo, ND) -- No injuries were reported, but a car was totaled as a result of it catching on fire early Saturday evening.

The Fargo Fire Department responded to the parking lot of the Tharaldson Baseball Park at 4:52 p.m. for reports of a car nearly fully engulfed in flames.

When crews arrived, they found the whole front half of the car in flames, with the lone occupant standing nearby. It took the single responding truck almost an hour to fully put out the fire and hotspots inside the car, which was towed away shortly after.

Neighbors nearby say there was no commotion or loud noise, just smoke and fire bellowing out of the car seemingly out of nowhere.

"I was just walking down the hallway and saw this large cloud of smoke outside, so I came out and couldn't believe it," said one neighbor who spoke with WDAY Radio at the scene.

Smoke was seen over the early evening skies blocks away from where the car had caught fire.

"Anytime you're working with the different electronics and belts inside the car, there could have been multiple ways it started," said Fargo Firefighter Nathan Adams who spoke with us at the scene.

He says the cause remains under investigation. There were no games being played at the baseball park at the time of the fire, and the parking lot was mostly empty.
