(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce has been awarded $9.6 million in federal funding to provide job training for critical industries.

"We gave a proposal to the EDA and answered their question, their challenge, and said we have three industries that really need some upskilling, reskilling, and new workers, and we need to be able to provide equitable ways to train a population within three industries.

Jenna Mueller says job training will be provided to people in "underserved communities" to work in the fields of cyber security IT, "precision agriculture", and advanced manufacturing in North Dakota and Minnesota. She says the grant will provide training for more than 900 people preparing them to work in jobs with salaries generally ranging from $45 thousand to $75 thousand.

Mueller says the chamber's proposal was one of 32 projects receiving the award, out of 500 applicants nationwide. The grant will allow The Chamber Foundation and its partners to provide a variety of "wraparound services" to reduce barriers to starting and completing training.
