(Fargo, ND) -- The republican candidate running for state senate in Fargo's new District 10 says he'll work to ensure "civil discourse" in state government if elected.

"You and I may disagree on some things, but I think it is important that we can walk away from the table and still be able to work on another issue down the road, and I think that is so important to have that in the legislature," said Steve Swiontek.

Swiontek previously served in the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1976 to 1984. He says he chose not to run for re-election to focus on raising his family and to focus on his career at Gate City Bank, where he was served for 42-and-a-half years. He is the bank's Chairman of the Board. Swiontek also served on the Fargo School Board for 6 years. Issues he'd like to focus on include mental health and addiction services, child care access, and workforce development.

The republican is running against two democrats for two district seats.
