(Moorhead, MN) -- A Moorhead City Council Candidate for Ward One joined WDAY Midday to share his vision for public safety within the city.

Ryan Nelson is a 30+ year Moorhead resident, a 20 year veteran of the city's police force, and an endorsement recipient from the Moorhead Police Officer's Union. Nelson says his experience in law enforcement is a guiding light when it comes to improving public safety within the city.

"Public safety and law enforcement - supporting law enforcement is my number one priority going into this election, "said Nelson, "I think we are in a good place [but] we do need to focus some time and resources in developing and increasing staffing."

The candidate says the biggest concern he is seeing Moorhead face today comes in the form of resource management. Nelson explains the need for more funding, workers, and especially additional first responders, is his top priority and something he says the city needs to keep on top of.

"In Moorhead, we see generally crime increasing and with resources remaining relatively level over the years, we need to keep up with that, "said Nelson.
