Business people who work in downtown Fargo express support for temporary toilet pilot program

(Fargo, ND) -- Some business people who work in downtown Fargo are generally supportive of the plan by the city to set up temporary toilets downtown.

"I think it's absolutely awesome. There is unfortunately not enough public restrooms in the downtown area. We've seen that ourselves," said Brenda Radloff, the store manager at the the women's clothing retailer The Nines Fargo.

Radloff says she supports the plan by the city and the Downtown Community Partnership to install toilets near the Community Engagement Center and near Elim Lutheran Church, as long as the toilets are properly maintained. Radloff also hopes the toilets align with the downtown aesthetic. 

Christina Perleberg who works at No Coast Tattoos, about one block from the Community Engagement Center also supports the plan.

"I had not heard about it yet actually. I think it's probably a good idea. There is not really public access restrooms around downtown unless you are a customer of a business and some people can't afford to be a customer," said Perleberg. 

Shane Barnes lives downtown and works at the Fargo Theater and at the Fargo Public Library.

"We need them (toilets) and they need to be for many hours," said Barnes. 

The pilot program is set to run 60 to 90 days. There is no word yet on when the toilets will be set up.
