(West Fargo, ND) -- West Fargo Public Schools students are set to learn remotely Thursday in the wake of the season's first winter storm moving into the area.

The District tells WDAY Radio that learners will not come to school for classes but will remain at home and join their classes virtually. Teachers will be expected to work from home and instruction will occur virtually for all learners, per the inclement weather schedules found on the District Calendar page of the School District's website.

"These decisions were made based on the forecasted amounts of freezing rain followed by snow and the potential impacts those conditions would have on our ability to get learners to and from school safely, as well as maintaining consistent power at our school sites," said Heather Leas, Director of Health, Safety and Public Relations with the school district in a statement released to WDAY Radio.

Activities (inclusive of all programs, meetings, trainings, rentals, practices, and contests) have been canceled. Practice for teams that have qualified for EDC and State meets occurring this weekend may be able to be held later in the day if conditions improve.

All district facilities are closed, except for the Hulbert Aquatic Center and the West Fargo Sports Arena, which will remain open for outside rental clients and tournament activities ONLY.

YMCA programming at the Early Childhood Center will remain open; all after-school care programs offered by the YMCA in other WFPS school buildings are all also closed.
