(Moorhead, MN) -- A man is in the hospital, recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after threatening himself to jump from a bridge in Moorhead Monday afternoon.

The Moorhead Police Department tells WDAY Radio that at approximately 4:04 p.m, officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious male near the 2000 block of 28th Avenue South. When they arrived, the male was located on top of a railroad bridge support pillar to the south of the call location approximately 25-30 feet above the westbound shoulder of I-94.

The man had a self-inflicted injury to his hand and was suffering from cold weather exposure related medical issues.

The Moorhead Fire Department then responded to the scene and with the assistance of their ladder truck the man was safely removed from the pillar and received treatment from Sanford Ambulance.

He was transported to a local hospital for his injuries. The westbound lanes of I-94 between 34th Street South and 20th Street South were temporarily closed to facilitate equipment needed to rescue the male.

The Minnesota State Patrol also assisted with the lane closures and traffic direction.
