(Cass County, ND) -- A 19-year-old woman is dead after a crash near Oxbow in Cass County early Sunday.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol tells WDAY Radio that a Chevy Malibu was headed South on I-29 at 5:47 a.m. when the driver of the car noticed the woman standing in the left lane of the highway.

The driver attempted to break and swerve out of the way, but ultimately struck the woman near mile marker 51. She was thrown from the collision across the roadway, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 20-year-old driver of the car and his 29-year-old passenger were both uninjured.

I-29 South was closed between mile makers 50 to 54 for three hours as a result of the crash, which does remain under investigation.
