Freshman Fargo City Commissioner shares learned experiences and details new role in Bismarck legislative session

(Fargo, ND) -- A Fargo City Commissioner is sharing details related to her new role as a member of city leadership, and what she will do in Bismarck in the upcoming legislative session. 

Denise Kolpack, one of five Fargo City Commissioners, joined WDAY Midday to share insight into recent events within Fargo and how the term is treating the new commissioner. Koplack says she is beginning to settle into the role and is at the office every day, which she credits to her quick adoption and recognition of official rules. Even with her relatively recent introduction to the city commission, Kolpack believes Fargo is well positioned compared to cities across the country. 

"I've been to The National League of Cities Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri, that was very enlightening," said Kolpack, "One of the takeaways for me - Fargo is in a really good place compared to other cities. Everything from its communications and government affairs team and the approach to strategic communications to the infrastructure we have here including our utilities, which are the best in the country."

Kolpack also shared details on her new role being a liaison in Bismarck in the upcoming legislative session. The commissioner stepped down from her role on the Human Rights Commission and traded places with Fargo City Commissioner John Strand for the liaison position. She says her experience in similar roles in past jobs will allow for increased representation of Fargo issues in the state capitol.
