Grand Forks company awarded $1.2 million to develop security solution for U.S. Air Force base

(Fargo, ND) -- A Grand Forks company is receiving a $1.2 million dollar award from the federal government to develop a software and drone-based security system for the U.S. Air Force Base in Grand Forks.

"That's incredibly important given the mission development that we have at Grand Forks Air Force Base in the ISR world, and this will have application for other bases as well," said Senator John Hoeven while announcing the award Friday.

The company receiving the award is Thread, formerly known as Airtonomy. The senator says the technology startup will develop a solution to enhance perimeter security at the base, while freeing up resources and base personnel to address other security concerns.

WDAY News First is reaching out to representatives with Thread for comment.
