Man dies in workplace accident at FedEx warehouse in West Fargo

(Fargo, ND) -- UPDATE: A FedEx company official has responded to a request for comment from WDAY News First regarding the warehouse employee's death.

FedEx Freight Communications Advisor Ron Mears turned down an interview request, but provided a written statement. "“No words can convey the grief we all feel over the loss of our team member, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family. We are cooperating with authorities investigating the accident.” wrote Mears.

INITIAL REPORT:

Federal officials are investigating a deadly workplace accident, which happened early Wednesday morning at the Fed Ex Freight facility in West Fargo. Officials with OSHA tell WDAY News First it happened at 1:40 at the warehouse at 2500 3rd Avenue NW.

The accident happened when a 29-year-old man tried to move "shifted inventory" on an elevated pallet, sitting inside a trailer. He was trying to position the pallet to move it with a forklift, when the pallet tipped over and crushed him.

The man's name has not yet been released. OSHA could issue citations or impose monetary penalties if workplace health and safety violations are found. Fed Ex has not yet responded to a request for comment from WDAY News First.
