Skin-rotting "zombie drug" being sold on Fargo Moorhead area streets

(Fargo, ND) -- A new skin-rotting "zombie drug" is being peddled on the streets in the FM metro.

"These folks are out there trying to market something that someone who is already addicted, is going to think it's going to give them that next greatest high and that is just constantly chasing that same goal," said Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski.

Zibolski says xylazine is being added to fentanyl mixtures and M30 pills. Xylazine is horse tranquilizer and is resistant to narcan. It also rots the skin of users. In 2021, there were 6 overdose deaths in North Dakota in which xylazine was a contributing factor. Three of those cases were reported in Fargo.

Chief Zibolski made the comments while appearing on the Jay Thomas Show.
