Cass County Electric Cooperative allocating $4.5M to customers

(Fargo, ND) -- A local utility is giving back money and credits to its customers.

"As a member-owned cooperative, at the end of the year we look at our excess revenue which we call margins, and because we are a cooperative we have member owners. Over the years extra revenue called margins is allocated to our membership," said Cass County Electric Cooperative President and CEO Marshal Albright.

Albright says the non-profit utility will provide $4.5 million in capital credit retirements to customers. That means customers who were online in 2001 and 2002 and who are still customers will be seeing credits on their bills in March. Albright says customers during those years who are now inactive will receive checks in the mail. The utility operates at cost, which means any excess revenues or margins are allocated to member owners in the form of capital credits.
