(Fargo, ND) -- It is a sad day over at the Red River Zoo in Fargo after one of the more popular inhabitants of it has passed away.

The Zoo took to social media Wednesday to announce that Milo, a two-toed sloth, died earlier this week.

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved two-toed sloth, Milo, who left us on March 12th, 2023," said the Zoo in a post to their Facebook page. "Milo was a cherished member of our zoo family and brought joy and wonder to countless visitors during his time here."

The zoo added that Milo's gentle nature and captivating presence will be "fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of encountering him."

Officials at the zoo say that as an ambassador for his species, Milo contributed significantly to raising awareness about the conservation of sloths and their natural habitats.
