Head of parent's group condemns Fargo Public Schools stance on new state transgender law

(Fargo, ND) -- The head of a local parent's group is condemning the announcement that Fargo Public Schools won't follow new state laws pertaining to transgender students.

"If there is any adult that is putting themselves between a child and their parent in order to facilitate secret keeping from the parent in order to hide information from the parent, that person is a predator," said Cassie Schmidt, founder of "Let Parents Decide That", while appearing on the Jay Thomas Show on WDAY AM 970.

Superintendent Dr. Rupak Gandhi says the district won't comply with a state law that requires teachers and administrators to not withhold information from parents regarding how a child self-identifies while on campus.

Dr. Gandhi previously announced the district's stance on the law, saying he believes following the law would potentially lead to harm for transgender students.
