FARGO -- Fargo firefighters responded to a hazardous materials spill at a local hotel Sunday night. Crews were called to the La Quinta Inn & Suites at 2355 46th Street South just after 9:30p.m.on a report that several kids were feeling sick after a chlorine spill.

Firefighters say 8-10 kids had symptoms of chemical exposure that included irritated airways, coughing, nausea, and vomiting. One was taken to the hospital to be checked out. The other parents decided that their kids were okay after they had been in the fresh air long enough.

The pool area was ventilated and the HAZMAT team gave the all-clear after an hour and a half.  It was determined that an employee dropped the container of acid while doing normal pool maintenance. The exact amount of chemical spilled is unknown but appeared to be less than two gallons.
