Fargo Police using ATF technology linking local suspects to crimes in other jurisdictions

(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo Police Department is now in a new partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

"What it is is technology that examines firearms ballistics, casings, and bullets and things from crime scenes, and across the country, then through this database matches them to other crime scenes," said Chief Dave Zibolski.

Zibolski said the initiative is called the "National Integrated Ballistic Information Network".

He says there have been cases where the system has used evidence collected at Fargo crime scenes to link suspects to crimes in other jurisdictions.
