Red River Valley Bomb Team determines device not explosive, area reopened

1:40 p.m. update: (Fargo, ND) -- According to Fargo Police, the Red River Valley Bomb Team determined the device was not an explosive.
 
The Fargo Police Department thanks the public for avoiding the area. The area is now back open to the public.

City spokesman Archie Ingersoll tells WDAY Radio the investigation is still active and ongoing at this time. 
 
In addition to Fargo Police and the Red River Valley Bomb Team, Fargo Fire Department, Sanford Ambulance and BNSF Police also responded.

ORIGINAL STORY: (Fargo, ND) -- For safety reasons, The Fargo Police Department is asking all members of the public to avoid the area of Main Avenue and Broadway as officers deal with a potential improvised explosive device.

Individuals are asked to stay out of the area bound by 8th Street, NP Avenue, 4th Street and 1st Avenue South. The FPD advises anyone in a building in this area to shelter in place.
