(Fargo, ND) -- American Crystal Sugar is calling this year's sugar beet crop the best in company history.

The company's CEO announced yesterday that beets processed at plants in northwest Minnesota and eastern North Dakota set a record for yield, averaging nearly 32 tons an acre. A total of 12.7 million tons of sugar beets were harvested in 2023. The total does not include unharvested acres, which were left in the ground due to the sugar beet facility being unable to process the high volume of product being sent to their facility.

A warm fall led to a longer growing season, with just enough moisture to produce healthy plants.  Farmers are expected to receive a payment of $84.67 per ton, also a record for the company.
