Fargo's airport expects slower beginning of 2024 after record breaking year

(Fargo, ND) -- Fargo's Hector International Airport is expecting a slower first quarter of 2024 in comparison to the record breaking 2023.

Some airlines are providing additional seats for trips to and from Fargo because of increasing demand. Doberstein says he hopes higher seat numbers will be filled in 2024, hoping to follow a consistent trend of 2-4% growth year-over-year. However, Doberstein says early 2024 might not reflect the increase in seats.

"The airlines are preparing for maybe a softer first quarter. March is typically our busiest travel month for the entire year, but I don't know if the advanced boardings are nearly as robust as they were this time last year," said Fargo Airport Authority Director Sean Doberstein on The Flag's Steve Hallstrom Show.

Although the airline across the country may be expecting the dip, Doberstein says poor weather in the area oftentimes correlates with an increase in flights out of the region.
