FARGO, ND -- A Fargo man who pleaded guilty for microwaving a kitten to death and abusing an ex-girlfriend is now sentenced to eight years in prison.

24-year-old Carlos Perez was sentenced for aggravated domestic assault, terrorizing, and animal cruelty after authorities say his ex did not return from a P!nk concert early so Perez could use her phone that night. In response, Perez slapped his ex, cut her middle finger with a knife, sent photos of the woman's kitten being held on a burning stove, and more.

The defense argued his childhood was incredibly challenging, after loosing both his parents and brother to a series of incidents, including a drive-by-shooting in 2018.
