Alleged missing child found unharmed in Horace

HORACE, ND – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says a potential missing child was found unharmed.

The sheriff’s office was notified shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday that a child had potentially gone missing near the river in Horace. Crews arrived in the area after a member of the Southern Valley Fire and Rescue located a child’s bicycle and fishing pole near the river bank, but no child. That prompted concern that the child may be in the river.

Fire personnel and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office coordinated the search efforts, with the assistance of Valley Water Rescue and a drone from the Sheriff’s Office. After more than an hour, the child returned to the scene accompanied by a family friend. The child was determined to be unharmed.

In addition to the sheriff’s office, Southern Valley Fire and Rescue and Valley Water Rescue, Sanford Ambulance also was on the scene.
